Jewellery…A few of my favourite things!

Jewelry is like the perfect spice – it always complements what’s already there.

I love jewellery…gold, silver, fine, costume, it doesn’t matter, I want it all. Jewellery can make such a difference to any outfit, whether it is dainty and classic to in your face slabs of gold. Plus I love to mix cheap and cheerful (hello Primark) with classic, high end pieces. However, I do have a few items that I wear over and over again. Being an equestrian myself, there is a definite theme running through my collection and I love being able to give a subtle nod to this aspect of my life through my accessories.

Seeing as most of my jewellery in this post is equestrian related in some way, that’s where I’ll begin. Hiho Silver is one of my absolute favourites for equestrian and non-equestrian pieces and there is something on my Christmas and birthday wishlist every year! The two-tone snaffle bracelet is my all time favourite Hiho piece as it is so versatile and can be worn with everything…I always get compliments when I wear this! I also adore the silver snaffle ring as it is so understated and can literally be worn anywhere and with anything. I love the tiny little details that have gone into this, from the snaffle link, to the stitching around the sides. I bought this at Burghley two years ago have worn it constantly since. To finish off my Hiho snaffle collection, is the double chained snaffle necklace in silver…yet another simple but beautiful piece. I don’t tend to wear all three together at once but that’s just personal preference…they work so well alone and when layered with other pieces.

Another Hiho Silver item, and the most recent addition to my collection is the silver riding whip bangle. I find the bangles from Hiho better quality than others from similar brands I have tried as the band is thicker and sturdier and the clasp is very secure…once it’s on, it stays put! As with everything else, this bangle is super classy, goes with everything and doesn’t scream I’M A MAD HORSESWOMAN…which isn’t the look I tend to go for.

My last Hiho item but certainly not least is the two tone rope circle ring. This is one of the few pieces I have from here that isn’t equestrian themed. I love the contrast between the smooth silver and the gold rope detail and it is so different to anything else I own. The matching earrings and necklace are most definitely next on my wishlist.

Another brand that I spend too much money on is Pegasus Jewellery. This is a small brand from the South of Scotland so is more local to me and they do the prettiest equestrian items. My favourite piece so far is the triple stirrup necklace which is made up from 3 indiviual stirrups, one gold, one silver and one rose gold, attached to a super dainty chain. The three different metals represent the past, the present and the future and the necklace itself is stunning, as well as being a little bit different. I’ve also added two new pieces to my Pegasus collection in the form of the rose gold and navy friendship bracelet and the two tone snaffle earrings. Even writing this I’m thinking, wow, I didn’t realise I had so many pieces of snaffle jewellery but they are all good quality, pretty pieces and also ever so slightly different so I think that makes it okay!

Watches aren’t something I have ever worn to tell the time, but I do like to wear them as a fashion statement. I have a couple of watches but the only one I ever wear just now is my Morrison Richards Belvoir 36MM. I can’t go on enough about how much I love this watch! It has a white face with rose gold detail and the strap is a bright pink Harris Tweed…so different to anything else I have seen. The straps are interchangeable as well so you can change the look without having to splash out on a new watch. I also have the Howard strap which is a light green herringbone tweed so I have the option to go for a stand out or more classic look.

My last items in this post are my scarf rings which I think are such an underrated accessory! I love a scarf ring and wear pretty much every time I wear a silk scarf. They keep your scarves in place so you don’t have to worry about them sliding or blowing off over your shoulders (this is a big problem in Scotland) and I find they just finish off a look perfectly. I’ve used the same one for a number of years which is a plain gold vintage number, however, I was recently given a gold Clare Haggas scarf ring for my birthday that I had been eyeing up. I haven’t used it yet as haven’t been anywhere that requires me to dress up enough thanks to Covid but I can’t wait to get some use out of it as it is so pretty!

I have so much jewellery, I could go on for days! However, this is the shortlist of my favourite pieces. Let me know if you have any favourite pieces or jewellery brands, I’d love to hear what you think about those mentioned here and any others I’ve yet to discover.
