May Birchbox 2021

It makes me sad when it comes to writing about my final beauty box of the month as it means I have a long wait before the next one arrives. This month’s theme is all about music and dancing to your own rhythm…I’m not sure how the products fit into this but does anyone really care? There are two full sized items this month and good variety of different products. As always with Birchbox, some of the samples are very small but I was pleased with this month’s offering. So why wait, lets get to the good bit…

I’ll start with the first full sized item which is the KNDR Beauty Eyeshadow Cream (RRP £18) in Confident Copper. This was the second cream eyeshadow I received this month (I got the Lottie London offering in my Glossybox) and I have to say, it’s the poorer of the two. I was very pleasantly surprised by the Lottie eyeshadow so had high hopes for this but unfortunately this just didn’t pack the same punch. The colour looks great in the pot but just didn’t seem very pigmented on the skin, I was left with more of a sheen than any colour payoff. I also found it creased easily once it was on, so all in all, this was not a winner for me.

Next up we have Arrow Nourishing Lip Oil (Full size RRP £13.00). Is it a balm? Is it a gloss? I don’t know but it feels more like a gloss than anything else. It is quite sticky but has a nice shine, doesn’t dry my lips out and looks great over lipstick. It also has a nice minty kick thanks to the added peppermint oil. £13 is probably more than I would usually spend on this type of product but I’ll be happy to use this until the end of the tube.

Next we have This Works in Transit Camera Close-up (Full size RRP £32). This isn’t a one-trick pony and can be used as a moisturiser, mask and/or a primer and claims to reduce redness, boost radiance, and diminish the appearance of wrinkles (I’m listening). So first of all, this was a tiny sample which was annoying but I still got a couple of uses out of it. It applies well and doesn’t sit on skin so I could apply my make-up straight away…and it did stay put all day. For the price, I think I would need to use it a few more times before committing to buying the full sized bottle.

Moving on to hair we have the Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Conditioner (Full Sized RRP £4.49). I remember the first time I saw a Palmer’s product in a subscription box and snobbishly thought it would be rubbish as it is such a cheap brand…and I will fully admit I was wrong! So I was happy to see another Palmer’s product in, however, as I have said a million times before, I get so annoyed receiving a conditioner without it’s matching shampoo (and vice versa)! But putting that aside, this is a great conditioner…it has the signature scent and left my hair feeling soft, smooth and knot free!

The final item in this month’s box is the Birchbox Crystal Nail File (RRP £15). I was pretty happy to find this in my box as this is an item I really needed. I much prefer glass files to regular ones as I find them to be more gentle on my nails (and they look pretty) and this one does the job perfectly…is there anything else to say about a nail file?

And that’s it for May’s beauty boxes…I really liked this month’s Birchbox and have been very glad I didn’t cancel my subscription when I considered it a few months ago. There was a good mix of products and a few full sized items which I liked. I wouldn’t say I loved anything this month but I will definitely get use out of all the items in the box except for maybe the eye cream which I wasn’t a huge fan of. I will also say what I have said over and over again…please stop sending shampoos and conditioners without their matching pair! Now I just need to sit tight and wait for June (JUNE!! How?!) What did you think of this month’s box?

And remember, of you want to become a Birchbox member, you can get 30% off a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription you can use the code https://birchbox.mention-me.com/m/ol/lo0be-kirsty-arnott
