Spooky season is upon us and Glossybox have got into the spirit with a Magical Masquerade themed box which encourages us to unleash our alter egos with the red and black ‘Secret’ box design or be your authentic self with the black and silver ‘Truth’ box (I got the Truth box FYI). Subscribers will also receive a cardboard mask to match their box which look pretty cool, although not that I will ever use it as a mask. I have to say I wasn’t as excited by this year’s October box as I was about last year’s but there are lots of full sized items and a good mix of items, although slightly more make-up this month which I’m certainly not complaining about.
Starting with make-up as that’s my favourite, we have the Josephine Cosmetics Lip/ Power – The Bold Matte Liquid Lipstick (RRP £21). I don’t tend to wear matte or red lip products so this was a bit of a disappointment for me. It is a really nice colour and it dries down quickly but I felt it made my lips look thin and they felt quite dry. Just not the product for me unfortunately.

The second make-up product in my box was the Saint Luxe Setting Spray (RRP £18). This spray contains hyaluronic acid and purslane to lock in moisture and hydrate skin and claims to leave a glowy finish. I was expecting this to just shoot out of the nozzle but if you hold it far enough away it does just mist nicely onto the skin. It smells nice and leaves skin looking nice and dewy…although I’m not sure if it makes my make-up last longer. I also wouldn’t pay £18 for this…it is good but if you’re looking for a glow giving setting spray, there are better out there for the same price or less.

The final make-up item in this month’s box was the Eyeko Spotlight Highlighter Pencil in Champagne Gold (RRP £15). This is advertised as a highlighter for the brow area which isn’t something I usually do, however, I am always happy to try in the name of research. The colour is really nice, a flattering pale gold shimmer and it applies really smoothly without leaving any obvious lines. It definitely gave a little extra oomph around my brow area and I also used it on the inner corners of my eyes which added a gorgeous pop of shimmer. This is subtle enough for day but also perfect for a little extra on a night out. Definitely my favourite make-up item this month.

Moving on to body care we have the Anatomicals Boob Tube Grab Your Melons Body Lotion which was created specifically for Glossybox. I had the shower gel edition a while back and really liked it so had high hopes for this too. This is a budget brand but I’ve never been disappointed and this came through as well. The watermelon scent is sweet but not over powering and the lotion sinks in quickly without leaving any stickiness on the skin. The scent does disappear fairly quickly which is a shame but not something I’m too bothered about. The main thing is that my skin feels moisturised and smooth and it dries quickly enough that I can get dressed straight away (which is essential now that the cold weather has turned up)!

The final product in this month’s box was the This Works Stress Check Clean Hands Hand Sanitiser (RRP £4). I found this a pretty boring addition but also an essential item for the foreseeable. This is a nice gel which isn’t too runny so it’s easy to use and the perfect size to carry in your handbag or pocket. It is made from 70% alcohol and 100% natural essential oils of lavender, neroli and chamomile as well as hyaluronic acid. For a hand sanitiser this smells really nice and rubs in qiuckly without leaving hands feeling sticky. I’ve also found that it doesn’t dry out my hands even if I have to use it regularly. Definitely one of the best I have used and it is now a staple in my handbag.

So that’s it for October’s Glossybox, all in all not the best box for me…the lipstick is a really nice colour but just not the shade or finish for me. I didn’t love anything this month but I did like the body lotion and although the hand sanitiser was boring, it is probably the item I will get most use out of. I did also like the highlighter, that will stay in my make-up bag, although I doubt I will purchase once it is finished. So a mixed bag for me, however, that is part and parcel of these boxes…not everything will work for you but it is fun trying them out and finding out what you like and dislike. The box (as always) was also fantastic value for money (worth over £50).
