August Glossybox 2023

Well that was a very wet and windy August…I think I could count on one hand the number of sunny days we had in Scotland. August’s Glossybox theme was Bold and Beautiful with three box designs which were just that! Bold, block colours…I received the pink, yellow and blue design which was a fun alternative to the usual pink. Were the products inside as punchy? You’ll have to read on to find out…

I’m going to start with the prettiest product in August’s box and that is the Spectrum Collections Velvet Powder Puff. I loved the look of this marble coloured puff, so much so that it was almost too pretty to use! It is also so, super soft and gentle against skin. I don’t tend to use a lot of powder but this is perfect for getting into nooks and crannies and generally mattifying any shiny areas. Love it!

Going hand in hand with the powder puff, we have the Bella Pierre HD Finishing Powder (RRP £25). This translucent powder claims to mattify and set make-up as well as leaving an airbrushed finish. I haven’t found a powder that I really like as I tend to find them too cakey looking . I picked up a bit of this and tapped the excess onto the back of my hand so I was only applying a teeny amount. This powder left my skin feeling lovely and smooth and you couldn’t see an obvious powdery residue. It also mattified well but I did still find that it tended to settle in the fine lines around my eyes which was a shame. I’m going to continue playing around with this though and the pot is large so will last FOREVER!

Another make-up product I received this month was the Ciate Velvet Lip Liner in the shade Cocoa (RRP £18). This is a full coverage, matte lip liner which can be worn by itself or under a lipstick. I love a nude lip but I found this shade to be a bit too dark for me. The liner itself however, is lovely…it applies smoothly and doesn’t drag on the lips and has a rich colour payoff. The nib is very small but I liked this as it meant I could get a nice, precise application…I’d love to try this in the shade ‘nude’ as I think this would be right up my street!

Moving on to skincare and one of my favourite products in this box, we have the Beauty Pro Retinol Under Eye Patches (RRP £5). I love eye masks so much and am always happy to see them in a subscription box so needless to say I was chuffed with these. These patches claim to smooth the skin under the eyes and reduce fine lines as well as improve the appearance of dark circles. I left these on for 20 minutes and one of the main pros for me are that they stay in place even when you’re moving around so you can carry on with your day. These left my eyes looking noticeably brighter and I would say my fine lines appeared reduced. Yes, it may only be a temporary fix but these are perfect for a pick me up before a big event or night out (or if you just fancy a bit of a pamper session).

Moving on to a product I have received a few times (though in different scents), we have the Floral Street eau du parfum in Sweet Almond Blossom. As much as I love having miniature perfumes kicking about in my handbags, I do find these a bit of a cop out as you can usually get them as free samples in department stores etc (though maybe not with this brand). I don’t know anything about perfume ingredients…floral, woody, musky…I have no idea what I like or what each smells of! All I will say is this perfume smells very nice and lingers on skin so I would get wafts throughout the day. I’ll be popping this little sample in my bag for top ups throughout the day.

As a little extra treat, subscribers received a sample of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost cream. I had actually received a large tub of this in a previous box and really liked it so, although it was just a sachet, I used it up almost immediately.

And there we have it for another month. I thought this was a really good box and excellent value for money. I’d say my favourite products were the eye patches and the powder puff…I just love them! I also really liked the lip liner, it was just a shame that the shade wasn’t for me. I’ll finish the perfume in no time and although the powder wasn’t my favourite, I will still keep using it so I’ll get use out of everything in the box.
