And just like that, we are into Summer and what a Summer we have been having so far…either as dry as the Sahara Desert or what feels like monsoon season. Thankfully there is always one thing that’s consistent and that’s a Glossybox getting posted through the letterbox! June’s monthly theme was Glow All Summer, something I think we would all like to be doing…and I think we can guess that there might be a few glow enhancing products in this month’s pink box (or blue pouch in this instance).
Starting with make-up and definitely fitting with the glowy theme was the MUA Glow Dew Liquid Illuminating Primer (RRP £4.50). This multi use primer claims to improve skin tone, soothe irritation and maintain softness and radiance as well as giving a glowing finish to skin…that’s a lot of work for a budget product! I will say that this did have a nice texture and applied very smoothly to my skin, leaving a subtle but lovely glowy sheen to my skin. It did leave my face feeling soft and was a good base for my make-up. Compared to my usual glowy base (*cough Charlotte Tilbury* cough), it was definitely a lot more subtle, I can’t see it showing through higher coverage foundations but for light/ no make-up days, this would definitely suffice (and is a hell of a lot cheaper). I have finished the tube and enjoyed using it and it is really good for the price but if I was really wanting a glowy base, I would still stick to my more expensive version.

Moving on to skin care we have the Symbiosis Firming & Soothing Eye Cream SPF 30 (RRP £72). I hadn’t seen this product before but was in need of a new eye cream so this came at just the right time and it’s always nice to have the bonus of SPF in skincare. This eye cream is full of scary sounding ingredients that I can’t pronounce but in English, basically claims to keep skin firm and supple whilst protecting against UVA damage and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. I found this nice and light to apply, it sank in quickly to the skin around my eyes. It didn’t feel as though it was an SPF product, not sticky and didn’t leave any tell tale white cast on my skin. Did it work wonders on my eye area? I can’t say I noticed any visible difference…which for £72 I would expect to. All in all a nice cream, pleasant to use but I wouldn’t buy this at full price.

Next up is the Gruum Solstraler After Sun Bar (RRP £15). Now this is something that does not interest me in the slightest…I am very careful with sun protection and rarely expose my bare skin to the sun so have been lucky enough not to need the likes of after sun for a long time (however, I can appreciate that this may be a very good product when the need arises). This is environmentally friendly in the sense that there is no plastic packaging and my goodness would this last forever! Seeing as it would be so wasted on me, I did not try this (not even in the name of Glossybox reviews) and gave it away to someone who would get much more use out of it than me. However, I can tell you that this is used by rubbing the bar over skin and then massaging in. That is all.

Moving on to hair and unfortunately another product that I was not overly keen on, the Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt (RRP £15). I have received this in a previous box and didn’t really get on with it then but as it was a deluxe size, I gave it another go. This scrub claims to gently exfoliate and remove daily build up to rebalance the scalp and leave hair feeling fresh and revitalised. To be honest, this does seem to work well, I applied in the shower and massaged into my scalp before rinsing and my hair did feel nice and clean afterwards. However, I did feel that this was just another unnecessary step in my hair washing routine and not something I felt the need to continue with.

The last item from June’s box was the So Eco Back Combing Brush (RRP £4.99). I do love giving my flat hair a good back comb so this was definitely a product that was up my street. The comb itself is made from 87% post-consumer recycled materials and can also be used for slick back styles (a hard no from me). There’s not much I can say about this other than the firm bristles are good for keeping hold of the hair and I’ve found it very useful when trying to add some volume to my hair.

So there we have June’s Glossybox review, I don’t think it will be a surprise to hear that this was not one of my favourite boxes but then that’s the risk you take with a subscription box. I did like the primer and the backcombing brush and I’m glad I got to try the eye cream. The aftersun bar and the scalp scrub weren’t for me but that’s not to say they won’t work for others.
