October 2020 Birchbox

Another month, another beauty box…although on this occasion it’s a beauty bag! This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Birchbox has teamed up with Look Good Feel Better, which is a charity providing confidence boosting workshops to people suffering side effects of cancer. They have also added more skincare than make up this month to combat the effects of the colder weather on our skin!

On that note, lets start with the skincare products and first up is Balance Me Beauty Sleep Hyaluronic Mist (Full size RRP £20). This spray claims to hydrate, plump and smooth skin and also help you drift off to sleep. I always have a pillow spray by my bed so was intriged to try this. I really like the scent and did find it relaxing…although it didn’t come out in a fine mist as expected…more of a splatter! I can’t say if it has made any difference to my skin but it certainly feels nice.

Next we have Anna Sui Eye Make-up Remover (Full size RRP £12). As with other make-up remover products I’ve tried, I found this a little too greasy for my liking, although it did remove all my mascara. I will keep using this sample but I still prefer to use micellar water.

Moving onto shower products, we have Anatomicals Shower of Love Bergamot Cream Body Cleanser (Full size RRP £2). I have received a few shower gels from this brand but I don’t mind as I really like using them. This one is a Birchbox exclusive, it smells really nice and left my skin feeling soft and clean. Win!

Next up is Klorane Anti-Pollution Detox Shampoo with Aquatic Mint (Full size RRP £8). This is something I regularly moan about but I have counted and out of 11 boxes, I have received 5 separate shampoo and conditioners. It is so frustrating to get one or the other without it’s partner, so I was already annoyed about this before I even tried the product. The shampoo itself seems okay and it smells nice, but it’s hard to tell when I’m slathering a totally different conditioner on afterwards. I would much prefer to get the two and then I would know if they worked well and if I wanted to use again.

Last but not least we have Kiss and Smink The Everything (Full size RRP £15) which is a multi purpose cream stick and I chose the shade Tulum. I’m useless with cream products so I’m not really sure how to use this yet without making myself look patchy and weird. It is a very nice colour though so hopefully with a bit of practice, I will get the hang of it.

So that’s it for another month and I’d say this offering was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I liked the shower gel and the sleep mist…and I would have liked the shampoo more if it had come with the matching conditioner (come on Birchbox!). I wasn’t overly keen on the eye make-up remover or the multipurpose balm but then again, you’re not always going to like everything. The samples were all very small again this month which was a shame (apart from the balm which was full size) as it would be nice to get some more deluxe samples and full sized items. However, I’m already looking forward to seeing what next month brings!

October 2020 Glossybox

I know I’ve said this at the start of pretty much every post but I just can’t get over how quickly this year is going…I feel like I did my last Glossybox post only a few days ago! This month’s Glossybox theme is Beauty Tales and subscribers received one of two box designs…either Enchanted Spirit or Midnight Fantasy. I received the Enchanted Spirit box which is a gorgeous lilac coloured box with gold detailing and I will definitely be keeping it as a storage box! There is a good mix of make up and skincare products this month as well as a couple of full sized items.

September 2020 Glossybox

Another month, another beauty box! I have been loving my Glossyboxes recently and this month was no different. As well as a generous stash of beauty products, I was also pleasantly surprised with a full sized bar of Lindt chocolate! This month’s theme was Glossy spa so all products are related to creating your own spa experience at home…something I think we could all benefit from in these stressful times! With two full sized items and 3 trial sized items (not including the edible treat), Glossybox have outdone themselves once again! There aren’t any make up products this month and I’m okay with that, especially seeing as the theme is spa, make up is definitely not something I would be using!

September 2020 Birchbox

I can’t actually believe it’s almost the end of September already (I’ll probably start all my posts for the rest of the year like this. I have kept receiving my beauty boxes right the way through the disaster that has been 2020 as they give me a little bit of joy every month! This month’s Birchbox theme is appropraite names Better Together and as well as another cute box design, they also threw in some stickers to add to the box (not something I will do but I’m sure many others will enjoy this). There is a good mix of make-up, skincare and hair products this month, although I think they have scrimped on the sizes…some are teeny tiny! But lets get down to the good stuff and see what was actually inside.

Life is Short…Buy the Bag!

Hello, my name is Kirsty and I’m a shopaholic…High street, designer and everything in between…accessories are my kryptonite! I have a borderline obsession handbags, shoes, belts…pretty much any kind of accessory and I have waaaayy too many (but really, is there such a thing?). This post is going to focus on handbags and my absolute favourites. Now I love a high street bargain as much as the next girl, but when it comes to bags, I can often be tempted to spend a bit more as I like a bag that can last season after season and can also take a bit of a battering without falling to pieces.

Craft Gin Club September 2020

So, I’ve been a member of Craft Gin Club for a couple of years now and it is actually amazing. Even if you don’t like gin, it’s worth it for the snacks alone…okay maybe that’s an exaggeration but it’s that good! I get the quarterly subscription as even though I love gin, I can’t get through a bottle a month, especially this year seeing as I’ve not been with anybody to drink it with.

Jewellery…A few of my favourite things!

Jewelry is like the perfect spice – it always complements what’s already there.

Diane Von Furstenburg

I love jewellery…gold, silver, fine, costume, it doesn’t matter, I want it all. Jewellery can make such a difference to any outfit, whether it is dainty and classic to in your face slabs of gold. Plus I love to mix cheap and cheerful (hello Primark) with classic, high end pieces. However, I do have a few items that I wear over and over again. Being an equestrian myself, there is a definite theme running through my collection and I love being able to give a subtle nod to this aspect of my life through my accessories.

Who is She?

You’ve made it this far so you might as well read this post if nothing else…so let me introduce myself. My name is Kirsty, I’m from the Scottish Borders and am a country girl through and through, although I have been living in Edinburgh on and off for the past 5 years due to work. I have a BSc in Psychology and MSc in Forensic Psychology (spoiler alert – jobs in forensic psych are like gold dust and I still haven’t found one). I’m really not a city bird so spend as much time as possible back home as possible (I’m not sure my parents enjoy this as much as I do), although, I definitely enjoy the nightlife, shopping and restaurants on offer in town…or at least I did before the rona.
